| William J. Killough
married Mary Wallace on Oct. 25, 1856 in Mecklenburg Co., NC Both John and William, with their families went from Mooresville, NC about the year 1866, to Arkansas traveling in covered wagons. William J. Killough and his wife Mary are believed to have died in Arkansas from chills and fevers about 1871. The children were brought back from Arkansas and placed under the guardianship of Jesse B. Johnson. (Appointed guardian Jan. 29, 1872, Mecklenburg Co., NC of John W. Killough and W.W. Killough, orphan children of Wm, & Mary Killough, deceased). He also received letters of administration for the estate of Mary Killough, deceased, May 28, 1874. The children lived with the Johnson's until they were old enough to be on their own. ( the above information was obtained from: The Killough Family of America, Canada. and Ireland - compiled by Mrs. J. A. Killough, Washington, Illinois) |

| When William Jackson and Mary Wallace died in Arkansas they left a family of three children, one girl and two boys. Mary (Magdeline?) Killough, John Walter Killough, and William Wallace Killough. The girl was known to me as Aunt May. Aunt May stayed with the Wallaces until she married Mr. Alexander and moved to Lowell (Gaston Co., NC. They worked in the Lowell Cotton Mill when I was there about 1908. We rode from Charlotte to Lowell on an electric train engineered by my great uncle Ilmer Williams. The only one of her children I remember was Burett(?) Alexander who I saw about four years later driving a kerosene delivery wagon for Standard Oil Co. | |||||||||||||||||||
